Presentation Overview A Panel Discussion on the application of operations management principles, processes and methodology to improve Health Care delivery and reduce operations costs to accomplish initiatives, like improving processes, removing redundancies, reducing waste, better controlling and managing inventory, better scheduling staff, reducing patient wait times, and better managing supply chains. The panel will consist of four professionals, who will share their experiences of how they positively influenced in the providing, purchasing, insuring, and supporting the effective and efficient delivery of Health Care services to patients. About the Speakers Dr. Anita Craig, a Physician and Instructor at the University of Michigan Hospital, who has applied lean principles to improve the efficiency and timeliness in the delivery of health care services like improving processes for transferring patients from acute medical to inpatient rehab to improve first-day utilization of therapy services. David Dobrzykowski, a Technology Professional and University of Toledo instructor and doctoral candidate in the Information, Operations and Technology Management Department, with a background in the health care insurance industry, has applied supply chain concepts and information technology in the health care industry, e.g. use of radio frequency identification (RFID) for hospital asset and inventory management. Sandy Barkman, a Health Care Procurement Specialist at the University of Michigan Hospital, whose efforts interfacing with suppliers, has helped to improve the delivery of Health Care services (e.g. materials, supplies, lab work, clinical services, etc.) John S. Pennington, an Operations / Supply Chain Management Consultant, APICS member and instructor, whose focus on continuous improvement to bring concepts in Lean Thinking and A3 Problem Solving for improving the delivery of Health Care services, e.g. better inventory management and controls, better staff scheduling. |
